I honeslty didn't expect to like this movie so much. I knew it was a fantasy movie involving magic, but little else (I hadn't read the books until after. But I was amazed. It was an excellent movie, definitely the best of the year and, for my money, one of the best of all-time. Absolutely brilliant. Sure, this is a 300 million dollar hollywood blockbuster which took 15 months to make. It's also being marketed to what seems like no end. However, Peter Jackson was able to take Tolkien's tale of good versus evil and transform it brilliantly to the big screen.
Yesterday afternoon, I plunked down my fistful of dollars and prepared myself for what I was hoping would not be a waste of nealry 3 hours. And, fortunatly I was not disappointed. I was not disappointed, I was glad to have been a part of this adventure.
Jackson brings the world of Middle-earth to you, he surrounds you with well thought out and engaging actors, McKellan and Woods are dynamic as Gandalf the Grey a wizard and the Hobbit Frodo. The grand battle scenes involving various Middle-earth beings (down with the Balrogs and Orcs. are insanely well choreographed, these were not just actors but the Fellowship. Strider, Legoals, Sam Gamgee and Arwen were all played with force and intensity by Nortensen, Bloom, Astin and Tyler.
The locales that were chosen were spectacular and the camera work and soundtrack/score were incredible during both moments of battle and peace involving the viewer in the scene.
Jackson was true to Tolkien's story, for the most part. Tylers character seemed too involved in the journey but didn't interfere. Jackson made this film and succeeded in bringing Tolkien's words to life and establishing all viewers to be a part of Frodo's journey to Mordor. 10/10.
